Job Summary & Responsibilities:

The Director, Design’s primary responsibility will be to develop and execute the visual identify of the brand on a global basis consistent with the overall strategic marketing and communication objectives of the firm. Other responsibilities include: 

  • As one of the stewards of the brand, lead the design for a consistent approach to all elements of the client experience to reinforce a style, tone, look and feel that uniquely positions the firm in its target segments and countries. 
  • Assist in the strategic development and execution of visual communication for both online and offline initiatives. Enhance the story telling capability of the function through images, color and graphics. 
  • Manage all verbal and graphic aspects of video, online, and print communications to ensure a vibrant editorial environment that effectively projects the company’s objectives, image and core values. 
  • Manage communications and creative operations plus the work load and pace of the team. 
  • Direct and coordinate video and print production including photography, design, samples, page layout, color separation, editing, publishing and printing. 
  • Motivate creative teams to push for new concepts/ideas that will continually elevate William Blair’s image. 
  • Successfully manage agency relationships and push for the best outside-partner strategy possible. 
  • Can “connect the dots” and identify themes and key messages to communicate effectively. 
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to set calendars and meet deadlines. 
  • Ability to define and build metrics for feedback and tracking of client interactions. 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in design, creative services and/or visual communications. 
  • Extensive experience telling a story with images, color and graphics. 
  • Excellent video and digital experience. 
  • Can navigate print, on-screen and digital quality. 
  • Has a modern outlook on design and familiar with the financial markets. 
  • Strong collaborative and persuasive skills. 
  • Experience elevating a brand in a creative way. 
  • The ability to know when to be “hands on” and when to stand back and guide the team. 
  • Able to be strategic and have more than production experience. 
  • Able to partner with senior managers and marketing colleagues to navigate a matrix environment. 
  • A confident self-starter who is able to lead with innovative ideas. 
  • Excellent written, graphic, and verbal communications skills in multiple media: The ability to communicate clear, effective messages that enhance and promote the mission, goals, and business objectives of the firm. 
  • Solid project management skills.
