About the Team:

William Blair Private Wealth Management (PWM) consists of approximately 90 senior financial advisors and portfolio managers, overseeing $30bill in high net worth assets. A key differentiator in our consulting approach is access to a team of sophisticated financial planning professionals. PWM is currently looking to create a Director role, providing leadership to the team, overseeing the team’s resources; while working in the role of a senior planner.

Job Summary & Responsibilities:

  • Sets and executes on the strategic direction of the Wealth Planning function to support overall Private Wealth Management business strategy.
  • Manages the Wealth Planning team to include all aspects of leading and managing (ie. recruiting, training, performance standards and assessment, conflict resolution, coaching, mentoring, etc.).    
  • Engages with FAs as senior most financial planner for Private Wealth Management; coordinating resources to pursue and/or retain large prospect/ client relationships. 
  • Takes an active role as senior financial planner in the partnership with other divisions, most notably, investment banking and equity research. 
  • Builds trusted relationships and rapport with Advisors. Conducts portfolio reviews with Advisors to assess product suitability and market, regulatory, tax and financial planning environment changes that impact portfolios, identify opportunities and manage risks.
  • Assists Advisors in deepening and growing client relationships through identifying and uncovering client needs, identifying relevant wealth solutions and technical analysis, and assisting Advisors in presenting and explaining solutions to clients.
  • Provides research, analysis, and education to Advisors and clients relating to financial and tax planning/portfolio management issues through training, writing white papers and other thought leadership pieces, public speaking engagements, etc.


  • 10+ years of experience as a wealth planner.
  • CFP, JD, CFA, CPA or MBA preferred.
  • Series 7 and 65 required.
  • Solution-oriented mindset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly achievement oriented.
