About the Team:

William Blair Investment Management’s institutional business development team is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with investment consultants and institutional plan sponsors globally. The team’s ultimate goal is to help clients and their respective consultants fulfill their investment objectives for their beneficiaries within the confines of their investment policy statements. The dedicated employees in these positions are experienced investment professionals, many with advanced degrees and/or CFAs. They effectively represent our firm and explain our institutional investment capabilities globally to prospective clients and consultants.

Job Summary & Responsibilities:

  • Provides external sales representatives with administrative and sales support, including coordination and follow-up of meetings; updates and maintains contact management database (SalesForce); prepares for educational conferences or client educational events; assists in transition of new accounts to client service group; tracks new business sales call activity and produces quarterly activity report for IM offsite meetings.
  • Provides inbound telephone support, including answering product questions and sending follow-up product information; researches industry conferences and coordinates event planning; researches industry publications for potential new search opportunities.
  • Coordinate all institutional conference programs and sponsorships, working as a liaison with conference staff, scheduling, pre-/post- conference mailings, speaker participation, logistics, conference support and promotional/logo merchandise.
  • Participate in other projects as needed by business development team or management.
  • Makes travel arrangements and prepares business expense reports in Concur.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable industry experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years asset management industry experience in customer service, internal sales or sales assistant role.
  • Series 7 and 63 licenses preferred.
  • Reasonable (or better) understanding of investment products and the dynamics of the institutional asset management marketplace.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills are a must.
  • Natural ability to “think for themselves” in order to be a self-sufficient as possible in dealing with day-to-day communications and projects with people both inside and outside of the Firm.
  • Attention to detail and follow-up are essential.
  • Positive, can-do attitude and high level of personal initiative.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office platform; ability to learn other software packages and internal systems.
