Job Summary & Responsibilities:

Responsible for managing IT audits within William Blair’s Internal Audit team.  Plan and coordinate audit cycles and individual audits. Lead and participate in audit execution and serve as a subject matter expert and escalation point for complicated issues.  Ensure audit work papers include appropriate documentation, findings and conclusions that are aligned with policy, procedures and regulations.  Present findings to Audit Committee. Serve as an audit resource to department managers.  Provide guidance and mentoring to audit staff. Share knowledge on IT matters with core audit team.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Manage the IT aspects of the annual SOC1 program including monthly testing and IT change control.
  • Perform general and application control reviews for simple to complex computer information systems.
  • Develop, manage and execute William Blair’s IT Internal Audit program, including plan and coordinate audit cycles and individual audit engagements; ensuring timely, well documented and high quality audits.
  • Lead and participate in audit execution, serving as a subject matter expert and an escalation point for complicated or unusual issues.  Provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced staff.
  • Review process documentation, risk and control matrices and other audit findings to ensure sufficiency of documentation, evidence to support conclusions and alignment with policies, procedures and regulations. 
  • Work closely with IT leaders, Information Security Director, and key business areas to provide recommendations for improving key MIS policies and procedures.
  • Present audit results to the Audit Committee.  Work with Senior Internal Auditors to present findings to department managers.
  • Work with the Director, Internal Audit to improve audit processes, controls and tools, leveraging ideas and suggestions presented by audit staff.
  • Assist in assessing existing internal audit requirements versus existing internal audit capabilities.  Expand internal audit resources where appropriate.
  • Serve as a resource to William Blair department managers for audit policy/procedure questions, as well as for questions/assistance pertaining to audit results/findings.
  • Lead and mentor staff on IT audit policies, procedures and best practices.  Ensure the development of Internal Audit staff. 
  • Facilitate interaction with and provide assistance to external auditors, regulators, and third parties conducting periodic due diligence.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Accounting, Finance or related field required
  • CISA, CPA or CIA certification required
  • 5-10 years of experience in public accounting, IT governance, or internal audit required with commensurate experience working with standards-based methodologies (e.g. NIST, ISO 27002, COBIT)
  • 2-4 years of experience with either broker dealers in securities or investment advisers preferred
  • 2+ years management or supervisory experience required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interact effectively with different business units and levels of management
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Effectively prioritize time and manage multiple audits as hurdles arise.  Strong project management skills
  • Ability to function independently
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point
  • Solution focused and detail oriented
  • Positive attitude and demonstrates initiative and persistence
  • Ability to mentor others
  • Series 7 registration to be obtained within 6 months of joining the firm
