Job Summary & Responsibilities:

The Risk Analyst will identify and analyze areas of potential risk that threaten the assets, earning capacity or success of the organization, including predicting change and future trends and forecasting risk-related cost changes to the organization.

The Risk Analyst will focus primarily on operational risk (the likelihood of risky events, such as system breakdowns and employee failure or fraud), with a secondary focus on financial risk (the impact of unanticipated financial events on the company) and regulatory risk (the impact that new legislation may have on the company).

The Risk Analyst will assist in the formalization of risk management within the organization – developing and integrating the risk framework into decision-making to enable business operation with an acceptable level of identified risk.
  • Identify and understand specific risks.  
  • Make recommendations to reduce or control risk.
  • Consider proposed business decisions with regards to risk, organization changes, operations and system changes.
  • Conduct research to assess the severity of risk within a defined framework.
  • Present ideas via reports and presentations, outline findings and make recommendations for improvements – to what levels in the organization they be making recommendations. 
  • Carry out quantitative analysis such as risk grading, financial risk, rate of failure.
  • Identify and assess government legislation and advise on compliance.
  • Develop contingency plans to deal with emergencies such as business continuity, emergency response, crisis communication.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree concentrating in one or more of the following areas is required: accountancy, economics, finance, insurance, risk management.
  • MBA or M.S. in Risk Management is preferred. 
  • 2-4 years of experience in a financial services setting is expected.
