About the Team:

The project management team supports Investment Management’s strategic objectives by driving the execution of a wide range of business and technology projects. Team members engage in project prioritization, planning, execution, and analysis, with a strong focus on ensuring high-quality deliverables and successful project completion. The team works collaboratively with professionals throughout William Blair with a goal of making the project-delivery process more effective and efficient for all project participants.

Job Summary & Responsibilities:

Manage and successfully complete complex projects for assigned business area(s). Utilize advanced project management skills, tools and best practices throughout the project lifecycle to deliver results.  Partner with business unit management to establish project objectives, goals, scope, timing and deliverables. Ensure that all targets and requirements are met and are completed on schedule and within budget. Inform business stakeholders of key issues that may impact project completion, budget, or other results.  Guide the development of PMO tools to enhance effectiveness and ensure effective implementation of these tools.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
  • Cultivate relationships with assigned business area(s) to be viewed as a business advocate and resource.  Develop a comprehensive understanding of their business functions, future strategic goals, and business challenges.
  • Obtain input from business area management through interviews, business analysis and other information gathering efforts to identify potential project needs. Analyze the associated costs/benefits of potential projects.  Recommend alternatives for project approaches.
  • Develop detailed project objectives, scope, goals, and deliverables.  Define tasks, identify project resources, and assign individual responsibilities.  Develop comprehensive project plans and define project budgets.  Obtain stakeholder approval of scope, timeline and budget. 
  • Drive completion of complex projects.  Coordinate project staff and vendors, ensuring projects meet timing, budget, and quality objectives.  Manage day-to-day operational aspects of projects, providing direction and support to project team and vendors.  Update plan as appropriate to meet changing objectives.
  • Track project status using appropriate tools.  Drive closeout of project issues.  Report on progress of projects and possible project risks to stakeholders, as appropriate.
  • Perform detailed analyses and create documentation to support business and project objectives, including requirements, RFPs, test strategies/test scripts, project issue logs, and other deliverables as required. 
  • Maintain strong knowledge of project management techniques.  Guide the development and effective implementation of PMO tools and techniques.
  • Perform post-project reviews to determine project successes and identify opportunities for improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, advanced degree preferred.
  • PMP certification required.
  • 7 - 10 years of project management experience with increasing levels of responsibility and demonstrated success in leading project teams and business analysis.
  • Strong project management skills in all phases of projects (e.g., planning, budgeting, scheduling, execution, communication, documentation, project tools and change management). 
  • Excellent communication skills, including presentation skills and the ability to convey technical concepts to multiple audiences.
  • Strong business analysis skills.
  • Relevant vendor management experience.
  • Knowledge of investment industry concepts and market trends and their potential impact on firm business strategies and operations.
  • Commitment to quality, including satisfying internal and external customers.
  • Ability to take ownership of issues and see them to resolution.
  • Ability to influence outcomes without formal authority.
