About the Team:

The IM-IT team is responsible for building, implementing and supporting application systems leveraged across William Blair Investment Management. These systems are integrated to provide a seamless platform addressing the needs of all areas of WBIM including Decision Support, Trading, Operations and Reporting. The IM-IT team works as a partner with the business to identify & resolve short term needs, drive operational efficiencies and position for long term growth.

Job Summary & Responsibilities:

  • Provide senior level leadership for team/systems supporting the Investment, Research & Portfolio Analytic areas within the Investment Management business unit.
  • Build and develop best practices around high quality, rapid software delivery including elements of deployment automation, continuous integration, and automated testing
  • Provide day-to-day leadership for IT team responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and supporting the proprietary Investment Research platform.
  • Work collaboratively with Director of Business & Technology Solutions to develop strategies and creative technology solutions to business opportunities.
  • Architect and drive software development and delivery of solutions
  • Coordinate strategies/initiatives with the other IT activities in the Investment Management business unit.
  • Work with Director of Business & Technology Solutions to investigate and propose new technology solutions and services with an emphasis on flexibility and mobility.  This could include proprietary as well as packaged tools.
  • Ensure the consistency of data quality and data integrations with the other IT systems within Investment Management.
  • Research business and technology trends that could enhance the Investment Research & Portfolio Analytic functions. 


  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • 15 - 20 years of IT experience with demonstrated track record of SW design and development
  • 10+ years of development team leadership including architecting SW platforms, designing and delivering proprietary applications
  • Proven track record of architecting flexible and scalable platforms
  • Proven track record of fast prototyping, continuous delivery, deployment automation, and automated testing 
  • Strong track record of delivering on-time, high quality solutions
  • Experienced with web-based design/development (user interface), emerging development tools (e.g. Angular, VSO), and mobile solutions.
  • Financial services industry experience is preferred, not required
  • Consulting experience is valued.
  • Experience working directly with senior business professionals.
