Job Summary & Responsibilities:

William Blair is hiring for an ESG Integration Manager to help guide our strategy, coordination, and execution of our environmental, social, and governance initiatives that are most material to the firm. William Blair recently conducted a materiality assessment and has calculated its carbon footprint. This professional will drive sustainability coordination at the enterprise level while supporting each business unit and their integration of our ESG goals. We are seeking a professional who is experienced managing operational ESG programs and who act as a trusted thought leader and partner for William Blair’s executives and employees to engage in our work. Responsibilities include:


  • Lead the development and implementation of the company’s enterprise-wide ESG strategy as an output of our materiality assessment which will include a short-term business plan and a long-term ESG vision and goals. 
  • Assess trends, risks, opportunities and best practices, engage internal and external stakeholders and determine strategic direction; lead and support business unit integration of William Blair’s ESG roadmap.
  • Provide strategic leadership and expert knowledge in embedding ESG across the organization including functional, business unit, and departmental level strategies aimed to empower colleagues, deliver client success, and engage in our communities.
  • Lead best practice employee and functional / departmental engagement program and initiatives to embed sustainability innovation in the culture, motivate employees to learn, engage and optimize business opportunities.
  • Support senior leaders and colleagues in understanding emerging ESG trends, risks, and opportunities. Inform enterprise strategy and demonstrate gaps are and opportunities to leverage William Blair’s unique ESG programs and approach. 
  • Lead the company’s ESG data intelligence to inform decision-making, enterprise risk management, scenario analysis and modelling, business planning, and reporting. 
  • Oversee performance, strategy, and convey recommendations to a variety of audiences ranging from leadership to colleagues. Use data to inform the firm’s commitments, communication and reporting process (internal and external).  
  • Oversees, monitor and implement all aspects of the broader ESG roadmap (output of William Blair’s ESG Materiality Assessment): including all ESG disclosures, ratings, rankings, stewardship codes, governance and oversight of ESG progress.
  • Develop professional development opportunities for employees and business units to optimize to grow ESG acumen, thought leadership and business capabilities. 
  • Lead the development of innovative metrics that enable the company to steer and report on its business model and value creation transformation, such as science-based environmental targets and human capital accounting systems.
  • Lead, advise on and help frame and make more efficient William Blair’s communications and responses for RFP and industry disclosures.
  • Lead and coordinate William Blair’s enterprise ESG committees and working groups. 
  • Collaborate keenly with strategic resource divisions – HR, finance, real estate, brand marketing & communications, and legal on all operational ESG goals and progress. 
  • Identify and address emerging ESG trends that can affect future business performance.
  • Lead the publication ESG progress – internally and externally – aligned with international standards and global best practices. 
  • Engage our colleagues in all we do. Activate employee passion to be ambassadors for aligned and high-impact ESG programs and solutions.

Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of sustainability and ESG strategy development, implementation and performance reporting or disclosure experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA), Sustainability Management, or equivalent preferred.
  • Deep knowledge and experience with global standards such as the SDGs, SASB, TCFD, GRI and SFDR will be prioritized. 
  • Experience, leadership, and membership in organizations leading ESG work. 
  • Experience embedding sustainability into organizational culture and linking sustainability to business performance (human capital, financial capital, and intellectual capital).
  • Mobilizing internal and external stakeholders and resources on collaborative sustainability innovations.
  • Expertise in working effectively cross-functionally, including business-facing departments as well as internal partners such as communications, legal, finance, workplace and real estate management, and human resources.  
  • Proven skillset to analyze and position key information among stakeholders and collaborators.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong governance and business process improvement capability with a working understanding of the regulatory and compliance environment.
  • Strength in utilizing data for analysis, reporting and storytelling. 
  • Experience in financial services; exposure to corporate finance or wealth advisory would be a strength.
